How AI Expense Trackers Actually Process Your Data
AI expense trackers only become useful once you understand what they actually do with your information. Here is what happens with Pludo Ledger, described in plain terms rather than marketing language.

Where your records start
Pludo Ledger is built local-first. Core financial records, including transactions, categories, budgets, goals, recurring payments, accounts, calendar events, settings, notifications, and locally retained chat history, begin in storage managed by your browser or device. Using the basic manual tracking tools does not require sending a complete copy of those records to a server. See how local-first storage works
That distinction matters because "AI expense tracker" gets used loosely across the category. Some products require a connected account or a server-side copy of your records before you can do anything. Pludo Ledger does not require either one for manual tracking.
What actually leaves your device when you use AI
AI processing is a separate, optional layer on top of that local record. When a signed-in user invokes Plu, the request can include the prompt, the financial context selected for that request, and an attached receipt image. That request is processed through Pludo Ledger's authenticated AI service, and AI processing needs a network connection and can depend on third-party services.

- The financial context you select for that specific request, not your entire record by default
- A receipt image, only if you choose to attach one for that request
Each of these only happens when you invoke Plu for a task. Opening the app, browsing your manual transactions, or reviewing a report does not, on its own, send that information to an AI provider.
What does not require AI at all
Every core tracking feature has a manual path. You can record income, expenses, and transfers, set weekly, monthly, or yearly budgets, track savings and spending goals, manage recurring payments, review reports, and export a native backup, all without using Plu. A bank connection is not required either, so the manual workflow can stay entirely within records you enter or approve yourself.
If you want a fully local workflow, leave AI disabled and use the manual features. Nothing about basic tracking depends on submitting your records to an AI provider.
Other places online services get used
AI is not the only feature that touches the network. Signing in sends account information to Firebase authentication services. The current setup-sync implementation can synchronize profile, account, and category setup data for a signed-in user. Exchange-rate retrieval, notifications, and direct device transfer, which uses PeerJS and an internet connection between approved devices, are also online features you can choose to use or avoid.
Review before you rely on it
None of this makes AI output reliable by default. AI processing can produce incomplete or incorrect results, so receipt fields, categories, summaries, calculations, and suggested actions should be reviewed before you save or act on them.
